ZC Edições is the music publishing house founded by Zezé Di Camargo to look after his repertoire and make room for new writers.
01Origins
Mirosmar José de Camargo was born on August 17, 1962, in the village of Capela do Rio do Peixe, in Pirenópolis, Goiás. Son of farmer Francisco José de Camargo and Helena Siqueira de Camargo, he grew up between farm work and music.
At 11, his father gave him an accordion. As a teenager he was already singing professionally, played in groups and duos and adopted the name Brazil would come to know: Zezé Di Camargo.
02Craft
In the late 1970s he moved to São Paulo to pursue a career. Those were hard — and decisive — years. In 1986 he released his first solo album and, from 1987 on, his songs were recorded by Leandro & Leonardo, Chrystian & Ralf, Chitãozinho & Xororó and many others.
“Solidão”, recorded by Leandro & Leonardo in 1987, was the first big hit. More than one hundred recorded songs followed, from sertanejo stars to names like Maria Bethânia, Fafá de Belém and Reginaldo Rossi.
031991
Zezé recalls walking down the street thinking of “Negue”, sung by Maria Bethânia. He got home, sat on the floor with his guitar and, in about three hours, the song was done — lyrics and melody.
Released in 1991, it became one of the most played songs of the decade, was recorded by Maria Bethânia for the soundtrack of the telenovela Suave Veneno and has been re-recorded more than 70 times.
04Now
Anyone who has heard their own song play across the country without people knowing who wrote it knows how much it means to have someone looking after their work. ZC Edições comes from that place: organizing, protecting and circulating Zezé Di Camargo's repertoire — and welcoming the songwriters who are writing Brazil's next songs.
To do that, we built our own system: every composition gets a ZC code, every submission produces a verifiable receipt, and registered artists find in the catalog the song they are looking for.
